First 5 Centers
DESCRIPTION:
First 5 Centers are neighborhood-based places that provide free services to hard to reach and potentially at-risk families with infants, toddlers and children 3-5 years. Programs provide culturally and linguistically appropriate opportunities for families to learn and participate in a variety of educational and age appropriate activities that promote healthy child-parent relationships, positive parenting practices, early childhood development, school readiness and community building to reduce family isolation.
First 5 Center programs and activities fall into the following required areas:
• Parent Education
• Family Literacy
• Tobacco Education
• Early Childhood Learning Opportunities
All First 5 Center contractors are required to work collaboratively with a volunteer Community Advisory Council comprised of parents, caregivers, community members, and representatives from local agencies to work in areas of strategic planning, program results, and community engagement.
