Prenatal Care Services
DESCRIPTION:
Women who see a health care provider regularly during pregnancy have healthier babies, are less likely to deliver prematurely, and are less likely to have other serious problems related to pregnancy.
First 5 Contra Costa Special Reserve funding supports the Best Beginning prenatal program to help high-risk expectant mothers deliver healthy babies (weighing at least 5.5 pounds). Patients receive comprehensive individualized prenatal care and services, including health education, nutrition and psychosocial evaluation.
About the Special Reserve Fund:
First 5 Contra Costa established a Special Reserve Fund in
2003 when it set aside $6 million to respond to the impact
on First 5 Strategies from state and local budget reductions.
Although Special Reserve funding is approved for three years
only, starting FY 2005-06 and ending FY 2007-08, the Commission
voted to continue funding prenatal care services for one more
year (FY 2008-2009).
