AASK America (Adopt A Special Kid)   In October of 2002, the agency will produce a recruitment drive, picnic and adoption celebration. This free event will allow children and families to meet and network with other successful adoptive families and with professionals to learn more about adoption. Activities will include a barbeque, presentations by staff on adoption topics, and games for youth.

Casa De Esperanza/HOPE HOUSE   Casa De Esperanza/Hope House, will sponsor a Healthy Kids Team Project by training volunteers to conduct a 5-month community outreach to enroll children 0-5 in the State Healthy Families Insurance and other programs for the uninsured in a neighborhood with limited access to health care and language isolation.

Celebrating Culture & Community   We’re planning a festival in San Pablo for Latino Heritage Month. There’ll be an afternoon portion for families; local residents & families will help organize. For the very young children, we plan face painting, a juggler, an astro-bounce, a story-teller, a petting zoo, children’s art projects, and periodic piñata bursting.

Clayton Community Library Foundation   To provide educational community projects to children age 0-5 in the community that will improve the environment. We were recently designated as a certified Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation, added two large butterfly gardens, and are surrounded by a natural creek and public trails. The habitat and butterfly gardens will provide a wonderful natural setting for a “hands-on” approach to introduce the wonders of nature as well as teach environmental conservation and ecologically safe habits to the young. The resources and materials within the library itself will add support to enhance the learning environment.

Craft Collaborations
A community gathering to celebrate and promote the education of Arts/Crafts & all its encompassing attributes. Divisions such as clay, fiber, metal, plastics, wood, recyclable items, etc. and their sub-divisions will have stations and sub-station workshop tables. Children & their families will be able to explore & create age appropriate take home craft projects. Education through the Arts is the theme. Other developmentally sound entertainment stations such as Movement, Music, Home Ec., theatre, games of skill, clowns to compliment and enhance this one day event.

Delta Family Resource Center (STAND! Against Domestic Violence) The Delta Family Resource Center would like to host an open house of the community to introduce children 0-5 years of age and their families to the agencies housed within the center; increase community awareness around services provided; and provide residents with valuable health and safety information, imparting a positive impact on the community.

Fathers Group “Los Compadres” El Grupo de los Compadres will sponsor a conference for Latino fathers to increase their knowledge and competence on children safety issues. The conference will focus on children ages 0-5 years old. Special attention will be given to the role of fathers in protecting their children.

First Baptist Head Start The purpose of this project will be to increase awareness of booster seat use through the dissemination of an educational curriculum and outreach to Pittsburg area preschools and family child care centers serving low-income children and families.

GRIP Homeless Shelter The population of homeless, single, first time mothers is my target group. I am requesting a series of four workshops alternating with four field trips over a period of eight weeks. The workshops and field trips will answer questions and help guide the mothers to handle emergency and everyday situations. The information from the workshops will be very specific facts that are related to problems that the homeless mothers find themselves faced with, while they are living in the streets, living in abandoned buildings, cars and short periods of time living in shelters. The topic of the workshops will be: of medical issues with children, nutritional eating habits & snacks, child development and child safety.

To have a New Parents Fair for pregnant mother’s and new parents to learn where to find support on newborn care, parenting and family togetherness. To create a publication which identifies resources for parents in our community.

Iu-Mien Cultural Preservation Association, Inc. This community social gathering will help strengthen Iu-Mien families relationships and traditional values. It will also help enhance communication between Iu-Mien children and elders for the purpose of reviving self-esteem and respect.

La Clinica Pittsburg
The goal of “Feria de Recursos Para La Seguridad De Los Ninos” (Child Safety Resource Fair) is to increase child safety and reduce the incidence of child injury. The fair will provide resources and valuable information to the individuals and families living in the Parkside District, located in the city of Pittsburg regarding child safety and injury prevention of children ages 0-5. With the supervision of La Clinica’s Health Educator, 3-5 community health promoters will organize the resource fair. Various community service providers will be available at the resource fair to disseminate information on safety issues and provide on-site instructions and equipment.

Lamorinda Children’s Art Show Committee
We will hold a Children’s Art Show on the same weekend as Lafayette’s popular Art & Wine Festival. We expect about 250-300 young artists to participate. Our purpose is to inspire our young preschoolers to continue with their art, and to encourage the parents and community to value it.

Lao Khmu Community, Inc.
Provide Community Health and Safety Projects to Southeast Asian refugee of the East Bay with children age 0 to 5. To enhance the quality of life to new immigrants and to build a community. Many Southeast Asian families has come to the bay area to settle as their permanent home and find life is impossible to survive. Many Laotian parents do not read, write nor speak English in their community or at home therefore home accident is greater than expected. Many family do not know what to do or where to get help when themselves or their child get hurt or injuries by chemical accident, foods poisoning and kitchen accessory failures. Teaching parent about accident prevention at home is the must have skills and key to a healthy life and safety. Teaching parent and children how to recognize different types diseases, chemical waste and or food that might kills or harm young child. Educated parent about warning labels such as in foods, medicines, foods expiration dates, CPR and first aid awareness program.

NHU-El Nuevo Mundo Children’s Center   El Nuevo Mundo Children’s Center is located in West Richmond. We are the only bilingual pre-school that serves low income families. Most of our families are Hispanic and 80% of the parents speak only Spanish. A very critical problem that most parents in our school face is that they do not have car seats for the their 6 year olds or younger children and we would like to provide the seats for them.

  The Council will make its annual community-building picnic more family friendly by providing activities for children 0-5 years. The picnic will include a survey of what equipment parents of children 0-5 want to add to the park; the Council will work with the city to purchase and install the equipment.

  The Peter Pan Parent Nursery Preschool plans to address child health and home safety issues by having a Health Fair for the neighborhood preschools and playgroups within the 3 mile radius of the school. The Health Fair will consist of fun interactive hands-on Health Stations in the areas of Disease Prevention, Risk, Nutrition, Exercise, Dental Health and More!

  To sponsor a health fair, addressing children’s health concerns by providing home and car safety, parent education and community involvement, which will promote positive parent and child interaction, safety awareness, and community participation in a multi-cultural setting.

REZ Wee Care Committee
  Building blocks of families into interconnected communities of friends with children ages 0-5 is our committee’s goal in Brentwood due to the intense growth and lack of infrastructure in our city. Another valid concern of our project and group is child safety and parental education in this area. We propose to attain our goals via a celebration of children and their connection to the world around them in a series of three, family oriented events taking place in July, Sept., and Nov. 2002. Each family-friendly event will include a safety lecture along with the distribution of Child I.D. Kits to parents including fingerprinting and DNA sample.

  Fathers At Work (FWI) peer leadership, Fathers Taking Responsibility, proposes to implement a “Father Fest” for young fathers and their young children.   This project is a series of life skill workshops that will teach parents how to tap into their community resources and use them efficiently. Parents will explore career opportunities and receive information on how to achieve their career goals.

Village Drive Resource Center   The intent of the project is to organize a multicultural community Holiday celebration for children ages 0-5 and their families. This event will bring local migrant farm working families together to celebrate their traditions, who in some cases, may not be able to return to their countries of origin during the holiday season.
