Art Department   The FAMILY MURAL PROJECT is a hands on public art project for families and will produce a mural and other public art works in Richmond, CA. The FAMILY ART ACTIVITIES WORKBOOK of methods used in the mural process will be derived from the documentation of the mural process.

Arts Department   The Whole Education Project (W.E. Project) will provide parents/guardians and their children 3 to 5 years of age the opportunity to express themselves through Afro-Cuban art, dance, and music while also providing a venue for children to develop vital interpersonal skills necessary during a child's development.

Celebrating Culture & Community   This will be a Black History Month celebration with activities for children 0-5. In it, we would also present the children's parents with career alternatives for their youngsters, focusing on six black leaders who would be personally present and whose lives and careers would be illustrated by TV shows.

Child Safe   We will provide a one-day, infant/child CPR course with two or three concurrent sections. The courses will either be offered in the language of the participants, or a translator will be provided. A folder of resource information, a bag of sample first aid supplies, free babysitting for children of participants, and lunch will all be provided.

Contra Costa County Office of Education   Provide 100 teen parent families with their children (ages 1-5), two recreational, cultural, and educational activities, which will increase positive family social interaction and bonding. Efforts will be extended to recruit single fathers who have custody or weekly visitation with their children.

Cultural Arts Alliance
Sharing the World with a Child is a series of 16 sessions that couple a parent/adult with a child in diverse settings. Emphasis is placed on the sharing and learning that takes place between the adult and child as they interact in different life settings.

Delta Family Resource Center The Delta Family Resource Center would like to host an event for the community to introduce children 0-5 years of age and their families to the agencies housed within the center; increase community awareness around services provided; and provide residents with valuable health information, imparting a positive impact on the community.

Desarollo Integral Artistico y Cultural This project, based on enjoyment and fun, has been created for the purpose of educating the children. With this, the children will learn to live together and develop their abilities and talents, arousing their interests in a positive manner. The basic lessons are: Social Rules (Greeting, Respect, etc.), Corporal Dynamics (Dancing, Exercises, Art, Painting, Drawing, Acting).

Ephesians Community Development Cooperation The Ephesians Community Development Cooperation will sponsor a Community Gathering and will focus on activities that will have a positive impact on the community. The event will be an all day event and will be educational for parents and children age 0-5. The event will be a place where parents can bring their children age 0-5 and get immunizations done on that day this will help parents get their pre-school children ready for school. They can get information on where they can take their children for health care that is free or little cost to them. We will have Dental screening by a license dentist. We will have other Health Care Professionals present at this event to give out information that will be helpful to parents.

Fine Arts Preschool Preschoolers in Martinez and Walnut Creek engage in testing curriculum based on music and movement activities with a professional teaching musician who will demonstrate and direct staff-led sessions. The finished curriculum will be available to disseminate. A culminating public Flock of Flutes Children's Concert provides an opportunity to celebrate with families.

Friends of the Richmond Public Library/LEAP We will offer Kindergarten Readiness events at five schools with large populations of ELD students, located in economically challenged neighborhoods in the WCCUSD. Preschool parents will be invited to participate in the planning of these events, which will include workshops for the parents and activities that will engage the children attending with their families.

Grace Cooperative Preschool Our project will be a three-part series including a car-seat safety check, a CPR training, and a fire prevention/safety fair. Participants will receive informational materials and other related resources. We will provide childcare with age-appropriate activities, crafts and food.

The Male Involvement Committee will host a full-day Fatherhood Volunteer Festival in Concord in May 2003. The Festival, to be staffed by volunteers, will encourage male involvement in early childhood education while boosting volunteerism for community projects and program in a fun-filled, informative Pixieland Park picnic setting.

To host a community art festival to celebrate the 'Week of the Young Child' (4/6/30-4/12/03) on 4/12/03 consisting of hands on art activities for young children indoors and out conducted by local artists and community members. The event is intended to heighten awareness of the importance of creativity and self-expression in the development of young children in the context of building and strengthening community.

Keys to Life Christian Center
  KTL will host a community celebration with a health education focus for parents with children ages 0-5 years. Parents will be taught how to effectively and safely clean a home without exposing children to toxics that worsen asthmatic conditions; how to reduce the chances of household injury; conduct resuscitation for infants and small children, and support healthy development. Parent will attend interactive booths and will be provided with a 'healthy parents kits' after participation in the event.

La Clinica De La Raza Pittsburg   La Clinica will implement an Asthma Health Education Project in its satellite location in Pittsburg. The goal of the project is to educate parents and caregivers about childhood asthma and will include topics such as causes, signs, symptoms, and asthma triggers for children ages 0-5 living in east Contra Costa County. La Clinica's Health Educators, along with community health promoters (Promotores), will coordinate the project by conducting a series of classes/presentations focusing on asthma and incorporating asthma education as part of their community outreach efforts. La Clinica's Medical clinic will support the project by referring parents and caregivers who have asthmatic children to the health education classes.

Laurel Community   The project will provide parents training in Kindermusik, a developmentally appropriate music education program. Kindermusik materials will be made available to parents of preschoolers and kindergarteners on an ongoing basis.

League of United Latin American Citizens, CCC (CC-LULAC)
  'Juntado Generaciones' will bring 20-30 Latino children age 2-5 together with 1-20 Latino seniors in Far East County during 16 sessions at Delta Family Resource Center to socialize and engage in play activities that foster pride in Latino culture while building skills that will prepare children to succeed in school.

  We will provide a fun, free Id Safety Program for children 0-5 years of age, and a parent safety education activity. An additional health and safety class will be offered at a later date.

Martinez Adult Education
 

How Do Your Children Grow? - A 5 hour workshop with Bev Boz, renowned early childhood author and educator. This workshop is comprised of elements from brain research, gender issues and learning styles. A greater understanding of these elements will strengthen parents and teachers ability to meet the needs of children of the at home and at school.

Preschool Health and Safety Fair - Families of preschool children will receive educational handouts at each station. (Stations to be defined on following pate.) The handouts will expand and reinforce what was learned.

Interactive Music Extravaganza - This 90 minute musical experience will focus on the health, safety, and emotional well-being of children. The program will feature world-wide childhood enthusiasts Bev Boz and Michael Leeman

Mt. Diablo Community Child Care Advocates
  MDCCCA seeks $10,000 to fund the proposed project comprising of three intergenerational, multicultural community gatherings and activities that promote health and safety for children 0-5 with the following topics: 1) family support event, 2) family wellness day, and 3) safety fair. Events will be open to 135-150 families, seniors and community participants.

Mt. Diablo Peace Center
  Our project is the development, printing, and distribution of four thousand, eight-to-ten page pamphlets for parents and educators of preschoolers, on two topics. One pamphlet will focus on mediating the impact of cultural and media violence on families and children. The second pamphlet will focus on conflict resolution skills. Both pamphlets will be available in English or Spanish.

NHU-El Nuevo Mundo Children's Center
  We are the only bilingual pre-school that serves low-income families. 50% of our families speak only Spanish 40% are bilingual and 10% speak only English. We are located in an area that is predominately African-American with some Asian families who rarely meet with the children and parents of our school. We would like to have a multicultural festival for the children and parents of the surrounding community to get to know each other better.

North & East Neighborhood Council
  The project, in coordination with the Richmond Fire Department and Contra Costa Health Services, will provide training to parents of children 0-5 on correct use of car seats. Free car seats will be provided to parents who participate in the workshop. In coordination with Contra Costa Health Services, it will also identify intersections in the North & East Neighborhood that are dangerous to bicyclists and pedestrians, especially parents with children 0-5 years old, present a workshop that describes traffic calming options and create a presentation to city officials advocating for safer conditions.

Oakley School Family Literacy Class
  The Oakley School Family Literacy Class will complete a Health Literacy Project. Each family will receive the Red Cross Child Care Kit, health literature, medicine vouchers and a toy medical kit for the children. A first-aid class will be held for class members and their families.

  To have a series of ten parenting classes for parents of children age 0-5. The classes held once a week. Food would be served to allow those coming straight from work. Child Care provided with the children being involved with a fun age level appropriate child safety program.

Opportunity West   For high school and out-of-school pregnant and parenting youth, demonstrate the costs, challenges and opportunities for independent living in an all-day seminar that creates a facsimiles of life with jobs, budgets, childcare, school, health, spending and other issues being balanced in real time.

  Comprised of on-site visits, policy briefings, background materials and experiential activities, this Child Watch Visitation project is intended to move community leaders to action by bringing them into child care programs where they can witness the significant impact quality, affordable child care has on children and families.

Parents for a Cleaner Environment (PaCE)
  The project will include a creek clean-up with children 0-5 and their parents. After the clean-up we will have a barbecue and hold a Kids Creek Fest. We will have booths that will include earth-friendly activities such as sampling organic foods, growing your won in health ways via integrated Pest Management techniques, plus multi-cultural art projects using natural materials. We will also have family-friendly performers.

Parents for a Safer Community   The Preschool/Daycare Environmental Safety Workshop will inform and provide remedies to Administrators and Employees of Preschools/Daycare Facilities (PDF's) in Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, (LaMorinda) and Walnut Creek, and the parents of the enrolled children on the present hazardous practices in PDF's, which expose this most susceptible age group (5 and under) to suspected neurodevelopmental toxins and other hazardous compounds unnecessarily.

  'First Aid and CPR for Families' seeks to provide basic First Aid and CPR training to parents of pre-school-aged children. The training, to be offered free of charge to up to 40 adults in central Contra Costa cities, will take place at Pied Piper Preschool.

Point Richmond Association of Moms   PRAM would like to host for the point Richmond community a celebration based upon the traditional Mexican festival known as 'Dia De Las Madres'. The celebration is meant to honor mothers of young children, in particular through the music and dance of the traditional Mariachi band, and to help children appreciate different cultures.

REZ Wee Care Committee
  Building Blocks of families into interconnected communities of friends with children ages 0-5 in Brentwood due to the intense growth and lack of infrastructure in our city. Our project is a child safety and parental education. We propose to attain our goals via a celebration of children and their connection to the world around them with two, family oriented events in March and June 2003. Each event will include distribution of Child ID Kits, fire extinguishers, enter a drawing for carbon monoxide detectors and safety starter kits and see a Fire Engine.

Social Progress, Inc.   The Safety First Project is designed to educate parents about safety methods they can use in the home for small children ages 0-5. We will show and tell parents how to make the play area in the home safe for their small children. The project was created to help low and very low income households learn how to make their home safe for their children age 0-5. This plan is to assist in eliminating problems of accidents that can be prevented.

The Perinatal Council
  The safety training project will be a one-day event providing three separate workshops on care seat, crib, and home and fire safety, with workshops concluding with free give-away of safety items. About 100 low-income Richmond families with young children will participate. The project will prevent accidental death and injury.

  The project will establish a network of Contra Costa County parents with disabilities to facilitate awareness and access to community resources. The outreach process will also raise community awareness of these parents and their children. A support group will provide a safe place to discuss parenting issues.

  The Valley Children's Museum (VCM) shall create traveling exhibits for the VCM Museum Without Walls (MWW) Interim Program that offer no-fee opportunities for play-based interaction between young children (6 months - 5 years old) and their families at various South County community events. VCM will create an infant and toddler 'play and learn' area within, or next to, our current exhibit area.
