Family Emergency Shelter

Description

First 5 Contra Costa has allocated special reserve funding to support two emergency homeless shelters. The funding supports a new therapeutic nursery at a domestic violence shelter, providing intensive counseling and screeing services for children.  Mothers receive tools to support their child's learning process and healthy development.  Funding also supports an Martinez family homeless shelter that provides job training, medical care, counseling services, tutoring, parenting classes, and other needed services to help parents secure permanent housing

Results

The emergency family shelter has served 452 homeless parents and children age five or younger between 2004 and 2008.  33 children received preschool and therapeutic services last year at the domestic violence shelter.
